Graduation Cards

Sunday was Graduation Sunday at our church. My mom and I made gifts for our graduates. We made our Head Towel Wraps for the girls and laundry bags for the boys. Mom didn't think to take a picture of the gifts. I made cards to go with the gifts.

I have been trying to put this up since Sunday. I am getting really frustrated.

The girls' cards:

I didn't purchase the Stampin' Up stamp that I used on my Mother's Day and Ordination cards. I found these swirly stamps and Michaels and used one 3 times stamped in different directions to get this look. I used my I*Rock to add the bling.

The flower is a digi-stamp from Debbie Buckland. I printed the flowers off 4 times and cut out different layers. I popped up each layer. I used my Michaels' Studio G Glitter Glue on the center of the flower.
"Congratulations!" is from SP & Company's Utlimate Sentiments I set. I used my Quick Quotes Powder Puff Chalking Inks to ink the edges. If you have not tried a Powder Puff you need to. They make inking edges quick and easy. I don't get ink all over me.
Bookmarks for the girls:
I made a bookmark for the girls and put it in the cards. The sun is a digi stamp from Tiffany Doodles. I didn't use the face that came on the sun. I used a face from my very first set of Peachy Keen Stamps!!! It is the from the Everyday Character set.

The boys' cards:
It is a digi stamp from the Stamp Fairy. I printed it twice and made the top of the cap pop up. I stitched around the edge and used thread to make the tassel. The card base is round and the same size as the card. The tread is blue and does not show well with the black. The next one I make for a friend's grandson (who attended the same school) will be stitched in red and colored in blue.

Help Make Cameron's Father, Shawn "My MVP Dad"!!!!!

Cameron is home from the hospital and is doing so good. She is only on oxygen now at night. Shawn has been by her side the entire time she was in the hospital. Go to My MVP DAD and vote for Shawn! You will need to go to the "D" in the alphabetical drop down box and look for "Denise" or you can go to "Yankees" in the drop down box and again look for "Denise". Our friend Denise is who nominated Shawn. Help me give Shawn and his family this MVP reward. He most definitely deserves it.

And We Have a Winner!!!!!!

I know I said I was going to announce the winner of the Blog Candy from Flowers, Flowers Everywhere yesterday, but we have had some storms in our area and some "life" happened.

I think the storms have stopped for a bit. I was able to get on line and choose a winner. VinDeeLoo's Generator from Random.org chose Day 1 and Post 19. The winner is........

Krista's Paper Cafe said...

Your flowers are unique! I like it! I want to know how you made the "spiral" things on the first card-are you sharing that secret?

Congratulations Krista!!! I will be contacting you shortly for an address to mail your candy too.

Krista asked about my spiral flower. I contacted the gal that taught the class I went to. She contacted me last night and told me they are called slide mounts. She purchased them from Quick Quotes. They are 5/$1.00 and can be ordered online from http://www.shopquickquotes.com. (This link will take you to the mounts.) They also come in square, so just be sure you order the ones you looking for.

We took a piece of ribbon - a strip of material could also be used - and wrapped it around the slide mount. Very easy to make and evidently from all the comments sharp/nice looking.

Quick Quotes has PowderPuff Chalking Inks. I used some in class and really liked it. I am gonna have to make a trip to Tulsa (the closest store to me) and buy some or purchase them online.

Less than a week of school left. I can't wait. I get to start do much more crafting!!!

My Niece is the Oklahoma Class 2A State Pole Vault Champion!!!!!!!

I hope this works. This is the episode of the Oklahoma High School Sports Express that showed my niece's vault that won state! It wouldn't let me post it. :( You can watch the episode at Oklahoma High School Sports Express. The episode is 28 minutes but the track part only lasts a little over 5 minutes. Holly pole-vaulting is about 2 minutes in. The young lady who won the 100 hurdles is Sis's best friend. You see Hol running in the 800 meter Relay. They took 3rd - bronze. Holly's relay team won the last event - the mile relay. They broke the State Track Meet Record.

This is Holly's winning vault. Takes a good "plant" to get "high"!!!!! (Pole Vaulting humor)

This is with her gold medal!

Bronze - 3rd Place in 800 Relay.

Praying after receiving medals!

Academic Champions!!!!

Prayer before presentation.

Prayer after award presentation!

Mile Relay Champions - Set new State Track Meet Record!!!!

Prayer after receiving medals.

Team Pose

State Runner Up

Prayer before presentation.

BFF's with their medals!

This is the best group of girls you could ever meet. They take it upon themselves to pray before and after every event. EVERYDAY one of the girls will write a different scripture on the white board in their locker room!  Their team shirts that they (the boys and girls teams) designed have this scripture on the back:

  • Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 1 Corinthians 9:24

I am so proud of them. I just love them to death. Always a Lady, Forever a BUC!

Flowers, Flowers Everywhere Blog Hop - Day 2

Let me start my post by saying HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY everybody!!!!! Even if you are not a mother like me, you are still very important to people like your nieces, nephews and children you come in contact with!

I hope you had a wonderful day hopping yesterday and are back today for some more ideas. If you missed yesterday you still have time to catch up.You should have arrived from Peanut Butter and Jelly Designs by Michelle. I just love seeing her projects. If not, you can start at the beginning with our WONDERFUL and FABULOUS hostess Kathryn at Creations With Kathryn.

With yesterday's projects I got to play with my new I-Rock. Today I also used some new things for me.

Last year I taught 2nd grade. This year I am subbing because the school district did not have enough money to be able to keep me on. I am actually finishing out the year for a teacher. I now have 3rd graders. Nine of them are mine from last year. They reminded me that last year I had them make something for their mothers for Mother's Day and they wanted to know if I was going to again. I couldn't say no, so I had to find something to do quickly. Since we try to instill the love of reading to our students, I thought it would be a nice idea them to make bookmarks for their mothers. I remembered seeing a corner bookmark tutorial on YouTube by Beyond the Fringe Crafts. I pulled  the stuff together and took it to school. We made bookmarks on Thursday!

I then came home and totally changed what I was doing for today and made 2 more bookmarks!
Bookmark 1
This is the bookmark I had all my students make for their mothers. We even made one for our Principal and Assistant Principal for Mother's Day!
I used Soft Peach Weave paper from LaRayne Miller and Keeping Memories Alive, Inc. The students could pick from different colors of paper from the same company. The stamp is one I got for $1 at Michaels.

Bookmark 2

I didn't like the thickness of Bookmark 1, so I looked for another tutorial on YouTube. I found one by The Hybrid Chick. I used a piece of blue paper from Creative Memories Energetic Collection (at least that is what the package said), The stamp is one I got as Blog Candy from someone. Sorry, I don't remember who. :( I have been wanting to use markers. I found some at Michaels - cheap - by Artist's Loft. This was my first time using them. I see everyone using Stickles. I bought this blue Glitter Paint (in the $1 bin) at Michaels. It is by Studio G. This also was my first time using it. I inked the edges using the Michaels $1 Studio G ink in blue. (Do you see a pattern here?)

Bookmark 3

I still did not like the thickness of the bookmark. I decided to design one on my own. I think I like what I have come up with. Using some generic cardstock that I purchased at Scrap Book Garden - West in Wichita, Kansas, I cut a piece 2"x6". I used some scrap paper and cut a 2.5" square and then cut it in half.
I folded the ends to try to meet at the halfway point of the strip. I used the paper cutter to even the bottom. I then used my ATG gun to put the paper on each side. I used the same stamped flower that I used on my student's bookmarks and used my Artist's Loft markers to color. I used my I-Rock to add bling. The flowers are on both sides of all bookmarks.

This bookmark seems to fit the best. It is not too bulky.

If my friend Jamie McGuire happens to see this post, YES I am using Providence to display the bookmarks. Jamie is the author of this book and is from my hometown of Blackwell! You can find information about her book at http://www.jamiemcguire.com.

I hope you have like what I have done for you. Please enjoy the rest of the hop. You should now be headed to the very talented, PammieJo's Scrapbook Flair.

Flowers, Flowers Everywhere Blog Hop - Day 1

Hello and welcome to the Flowers, Flowers Everywhere Blog Hop - Day 1. I hope you are enjoying your hop right now. You should have hopped over from Jennifer at That'z Uneek. As the name of her blog suggests, she always has something UNEEK (unique) for all of us. I have nooooo idea where her ideas come from!!!  If you just stumbled upon my blog and would like to start at the beginning, please visit Kathryn - our WONDERFUL HOSTESS at Creations with Kathryn.

I am NOT a real girlie girl. I don't wear pink and ruffles - but I am not a tom boy or cow girl either. I don't know what you would call me. I also am not a flower person. Don't get me wrong, I love when my hubby brings me flowers, but you will not find me planting them. The only reason we have roses outside our house is because the people who lived here before must have planted them. I do not have a green thumb. I have even killed a plastic plant. I tried to be a nice girlfriend to my husband when we were dating. I started watering his plants. One day we noticed a stench coming from his plants. It was then that I discovered they were PLASTIC. We do have a few plants in the house. My parents gave me a plant last year when I started teaching again. It is still alive. I haven't killed any of the plants that  we got when my mother-in-law passed away in February.

Needless to say, I was at a loss when trying to come up with something for this hop. I was soooooo excited and relieved to learn that the scrap class I take every month was going to be on flowers in April. I got to class late because of my niece's track meet, but that was ok. I just wanted to learn how to make the flowers. I didn't need to learn how to put them on the cards and lay outs.

I took the flowers and the directions/pictures of the cards and lay outs to make my cards.. I changed the cards some. I am NOT taking credit for the main ideas of the cards. Here are my 2 cards.

The paper from both cards are from Stampin' Up and is the ELEGANT SOIREE Paper Pack. The swirly stamp is also from Stampin' Up and is from the BAROQUE MOTIFS STAMP SET stamped in Soft Suede. The first card also has Stampin' Ups PETAL PIZZAZZ STAMP SET stamped in Baha Breeze.

Card #1

I changed up what we did in class by putting the card on cream base instead of white. I also used a cream cardstock to stamp my own sentiment. I added some bling. I got to use my new I-Rock to add the 7 gems. I stamped "It's Your Day!" from SP & Company's Ultimate Sentiments I set using Tim Holtz's "frayed burlap" Distress Ink to stamp the sentiment and in the edges.

A minister friend of mine is being ordained on Friday. I am giving her this card as well as this glass block I made.

Card #2

I also added the bling on this card using my I-Rock. I added homemade Glimmer Mist to the flower. Tammy from Tamminnie's Designs gave me the recipe.I use another SP & Company stamp - "I Love You" with the $1 ink at Michaels. I again use Tim Holtz's "frayed burlap" Distress Ink to ink the edges.

Thank you for hopping. I do have a little Blog Candy for you!!!! I thought you may enjoy some flowers of your own!!!

Since this is a 2 day hop, you will have 2 chances to win. I have a different project for tomorrow. My drawing will be open to Monday, May 9th. A winner will be chosen sometime Tuesday. To be eligible to win you need to:
1) Become a follower if you are not one already.
2) Leave a comment on this post. Coming back tomorrow will give you a second chance!!!
3) Have a US mailing address.

I don't know if you noticed or not, but I have 79 followers. If I get up to 100 I will add something to the package. The more I get, the more I will add.

Enjoy the rest of your hop. Your next stop is the oh so talented Erin from *~*~*~*SpantastiKreations*~*~*~*.

See you tomorrow!!

Miss Heidi Boo's Birthday!

My niece #3 turned 6 on Friday. I asked her a few weeks ago what she wanted for her birthday. She told me she wanted me to make her gift. She said she wanted me to make a cheerleader card. Well, none of my Cricut cartridges have cheerleaders. I knew I was in a pickle. I do own Twinkle Toes. I decided to use one of the dancers with a dress. Twinkle Toes does have pom poms, but no cheerleader. I combined about 3 different cuts to get the look I wanted. I bought some clear stamps at HL that had sentiments. Here is the card I made.
My husband told me, "I am not into this type of thing, but I think the card turned out really cute and I am sure Heidi will like it cause I do." I am taking that as a huge compliment. :)
